Why Am I So Sad When My Life Is So Perfect?

Okay, maybe my life was not perfect. Nobody has a perfect life. But mine was pretty darn
close and I was still so depressed and sad all the time I had no idea what was going on. My
husband is super nice and I live in a beautiful home on a lake where people usually go to
vacation. My life should have felt like a vacation but it felt like agony and I did not want to get
out of bed in the morning. Or in the afternoon or evening either. Nothing had happened
recently to make me sad. In fact, things have just gotten better for me working at a job I love
and my health was better than ever. Well, my physical health was anyway.

What Is Wrong with Me?

So, what was wrong with me? I’m sure you all have guessed it by now. I was depressed. Still
am. Severe chronic clinical depression. I tried to just “cheer up and get over it” and of course
that does not work. People who say that really get on my nerves. “Why are you depressed?
You have everything you could ever want? Just get over it already!” Sure, if we could do that
wouldn’t that be nice for everyone? Except for psychologists. They would be out of a job,
right? Speaking of which, I decided to find a therapist to get out of my funk but I did not want
to drive all the way to the city to see one.

Online Psychology

So, I decided to try an online psychologist. Yes, online psychology. It is the newest craze in
mental health and although I was not sure about it, it sure did sound great. Not having to
leave my house to see a doctor is amazing. Especially when you live out in the country
where there is nobody for miles. And how convenient is this when you do not even want to
leave your bed? Seriously, it is like a dream come true for those of us too depressed to even
get out of bed and get dressed! So, I looked into it and found several reputable companies
online.

Is It a Scam?

Of course, I knew there was a risk as there always is when you deal with someone online
but I did my homework. There are some scam sites out there, don’t get me wrong. But, there
are tons of really great online psychologists, therapists, and counsellors that are not only
convenient but cheap too. Yeah, because many people do not have insurance that covers
mental health care so we have to pay out of pocket. It turns out it is much cheaper to talk to
someone online because they do not have to pay as much overhead for things like office
space and utilities.

Online Therapy is Amazing
This online therapy is probably the best thing that has ever happened to mental health care!
Really! You can talk online through Skype, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts. Or, you can chat
through online chat or even through your phone. Most of them also have the option of talking
on the phone. Then there is email. You can do that too. The best part about it is that you can
contact them anytime you want. Even in the middle of the night when you cannot sleep!
They may not answer right away but they will answer as soon as they see your message
and you get the benefit of being able to get your feelings out right away while you are feeling
them instead of waiting two weeks or longer for an appointment.

It May Not Be for Everyone

Of course, this is not for everyone. If you are severely depressed, you will probably need to
see someone in person if you need medication. I went to my regular doctor to get
antidepressants so I still did not have to find a psychologist and make an appointment. So, if
you are like me and do not want to get out of bed to find a therapist, give it a try. It’s easy,
fast, and cheap. What more can you ask for?
