“For the past 10 years, I have been struggling with depression, general anxiety disorder, an eating disorder, body dysmorphia disorder, and self harm.
I have been in recovery for about 17 months now and it has completely saved my life. Recovery is a struggle every day, but it is so, so worth it. Recovery has slowly been giving me back the life my eating disorder stole, and it is so empowering.
Being able to go throughout a day and deal with my emotions in a healthy way rather than numbing my feelings through an eating disorder behavior is so freeing. I never thought I would see the day that I would have been over a year purge free, but here I am.
I am so thankful everyday for recovery, and the beautiful community I have found here on Instagram. Mental illness, as well as recovery, can feel incredibly isolating so having an outlet where I can share my struggles and triumphs with my mental health is truly amazing.
If you are struggling with an eating disorder, and looking for a sign to get help, this is it. I hope you believe me when I say recovery is the best decision you can ever make. At the end of the day, our eating disorder’s goal is to kill us, and recovery is the one thing that cannot only fight it, but also beat it!!
Mental illness is incredibly draining to fight alone, but together, we are strong enough to overcome it. I am living proof that life gets better as long as you do not give up. I believe in you, just like I believe in myself.”
