*** TW: Mentions Suicidal thoughts, selfharm***

“I have suffered with anxiety and mental health problems since I was a child.

After struggling constantly and having more problems with anxiety and depression, reaching to the point of suicide seemed to be the best option. On a few occasions I wanted to end my life, some just thoughts, some actual attempts at self harm and going through with it, the most recent one the worst suicide attempt. What stopped me? I don’t really know but something made me realise that I couldn’t carry on like that. School, employment, friendships and relationships have all played their part with how much I struggled with over the years and how sometimes I really struggle now.

Back in the Summer of 2018 I saw my doctor about attending the gym through a GP referral, this was something that I decided I would like to do, to get me fitter, healthier and hopefully help my mental health problems. Now after several months of attending the gym it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made, I feel so much happier compared to where I was before, I’ve lost weight and gained confidence to get myself onto the next level of recovery. There is still a long way to go but I’m embracing challenges more now than I ever have, I still get the bad days but it’s learning how to deal with them, push them away and start again the next day which is easier said than done.”
